Audience and Institution Essay

Assess the importance of marketing in the media area you have studied

An important part of producing a successful movie is marketing, the promotion and selling of products or services. Marketing alters how the movie is viewed in the eyes of potential or current audiences. Thus, one of the most predominant parts of the process of making a movie is how the movie is presented/viewed. If marketing isn’t adaptable to all consumers, it will make or break a movie.

Ugly Dolls is a perfect example of what happens if a movie does not get good marketing. Only having one commercial aired during the “Puppy Bowl'' will not reach their targeted audience because the majority of people are watching the Super Bowl, since both of these programs are aired at the same time. Another way the company promoted the movie was to make a website which would have a section to interact with the characters. In retrospect, it may seem like an upstanding way to gain awareness of Ugly Dolls, but if individuals do not know about the movie already, it will be unlikely that they will be informed about it. If the marketing team cross promoted with McDonald's, like making toys for Happy Meals, they would have been engaging with the viewers they wanted and also luring parents since children love the toys that come with the meal.

Beauty and the Beast is contradicting to Ugly Dolls. Maybe it could be that one of the biggest companies (Walt Disney Pictures) is involved or that it brings nostalgia to many adults, this movie has made 1.3 billion worldwide. Ignoring marketing, this movie would have been a hit seeing that Walt Disney is a powerhouse name within itself. There are a significant number of die-hard fans that would support anything that this company makes. Besides that, marketing began before the movie was even introduced to the public. One of the best marketing tactics was to have iMessage stickers. Majority of the population have Iphones or an Apple product, therefore people will subconsciously be aware of the movie and become intrigued. Other ways marketing was hidden is by promoting with companies like Twinning and Morgan Taylor. Even though it was in everyday products such as tea and nail polish, it is different from seeing it in social media and TV. Having a new way of promoting this movie brings different types of people to watch it.

An additional movie that has big name companies (Marvel Studios and Walt Disney Pictures) is Guardians of the Galaxy. As previously stated, fanatics will be excited about this movie and even be a way of free promotion. Considering that there are five movies that involve Guardians of the Galaxy, there are people that buy merchandise. This also goes for any type of marketing. When people wear their merch, for example: shirts, hats or pins, they advertise the movie. Another marketing tactic is to collaborate with food companies. Dairy Queen made a special flavor and cup to advertise and the owners of Doritos added the promotion to their bags of chips. Having the promotion on products like these is a simple yet effective way to advertise a movie.

Even though it may seem that marketing has to be extravagant, tiny details can also impact a movie. For Furious 7, there was a special Red Carpet which “fans will be able to watch the trailer and ask the cast questions”. There was also a website created where they could “join the family.” This may not seem as a promotion of the movie, but fans like to have personal connections with their favorite celebrities. The intimacy assembles a bond and will attract new fans to the franchise. Additionally, an action based movie will have other ways to advertise. Universal Studios made a ride that surrounds Furious 7, people that enjoy going to theme parks will see the marketing and be interested in the movie because the ride is exciting and new.

All in all, marketing is the key to having a successful movie. As stated above, it does not matter how lavish or minuscule the promotion is for a movie. It matters when and how it is introduced.

24 Extract Essay

In the extract 24, the overall theme is that you should always believe in what is right. Even though nobody will agree with you which connects with the social issue of standing up for yourself.

In most of the video, there were two-people shot. It mostly was the main actors in the movie. Having this scene as the shot emphasizes that there is a problem between them and that something will happen later on. In the movie, there were also over the shoulder shots. This demonstrates that they are only speaking to each other and that the argument is not one-sided. The ‘argument’ is portraying that both characters believe in what they think is right.

The way that the extract is edited also adds to the argument as well. Most of the scene was shot reverse shot and then it suddenly went into a split screen. The shot reverse shot is the main actors having their conversation then when the male actor is attacking the female actor it jumps to a split screen showing the other people heading to the room they are in and trying to stop them. The sudden change in action draws the viewer in and is showing what might happen next.

The dialogue and and music contributes to the suspense that is going on within the film. The Dialogue starts with the two main actors talking about where the bomb is and then it jumps to the man yelling at the woman because she wants to leave the country. While they are talking the music is low and not loud as in action movies. When the male actor starts screaming the music gets louder, trying to add emotion because it went from two different ends of a spectrum. Lighting and setting also add to the suspense and theme. The location appears to be an interrogation room and the lighting is dim. It is well known that crime shows use this tactic to create the ‘thrill.’ The movie uses the same idea because it intertwines with the feel and creates the mood. This is somewhat of the climax because the theme is trying to demonstrate that empowerment people want to have.

This dramatic scene is a perfect way to show empowerment, especially the underdog.

CCR for Movie

This is my CCR for my movie. I filmed it all in one take but it was impossible for me to upload it. It had more than 100 mb so it did not work. So, I split it up on Imovie and put it in a google slide. I did a "get ready with me" type of video because it was fun to do. Most youtubers do these types of videos and Khiara was doing it so I thought I would do it as well. It was kind of difficult to do because it was hard for me to cut out footage from the middle of the video. That is why I separated it. But, when I separated it, I did cut some footage that was unnecessary.

CCR for Music Video

This is the CCR for the music video. Overall, I think that the music video was the best out of all the videos that we produce. The music video was fun and simple to make. Since the song had a simple meaning, we decided to just to hang out and have fun.

Finally Reshooting!

After a chaotic week of the coronavirus, my group finally filmed!!!Friday was the best day to film because all of us had time to prepare for what will happen in the next few weeks. Since we know what we need to fix, it was easier to reshoot and see our mistakes. We also had to reshoot more because we had new actors. Before we started to film, we went through what we were going to do and what changes will be in the film. The “police officer” and Ava did run-throughs of what they were going to say during the interrogation. We think that it was best if we do this because it will see more natural since we change it to be in her house and not in a interrogation room. We began filming with the open scene of our movie. At the moment, we decided to film some-what in order. We tried to do as much as we but we had to end it quickly. We are going to film again to finish the rest of our movie. We have gotten more time to film and edit because school has been canceled until further notice, we have more time in the day to film instead of after school and the weekends.

The Unexpected: Reshoot Update

List of what we should have in our movie
As everybody in the world knows, there is an outbreak. The coronavirus is something that no one saw coming. My group and I, and everyone else, were not prepared for this event to happen. At first, it didn’t effect us as school until last Friday it was announced that school was going to be canceled for a week. When this happened, we were still planning to film, but our actors parents decided that it was best to not let them be in our movie for safety reasons and let them do it anytime. On top of finding a new location, we had to persuade their mother to let them film, and the cherry on top, we have to buy supplies for our families to prepare for the worst. A pandemic was the last thing that I would imagine to happen. However, we can not let this stop us. Our group made arrangements to film tomorrow at 4. We will be filming at my house and since we’re are doing that, the actors can join as well. We will be very cautious with what we will do and make sure to protect ourselves in this moment of crisis. The last thing we want is someone getting sick!

Planning For Reshoot

My group and I decided that it is best to film this weekend. We receive the review that one of our classmates did for a movie. We learned a lot from her because it was a different perspective than what we always see because we were editing it and we didn’t have a new pair of eyes. We decided to plan what we’re going to do for the weekend as in what locations we are going to use because when we use the study room at the library we had to be quiet and we feel like it will be better if we work at my house because we get the full affect of what the actors are trying to say. We also got new actors because we kept laughing during filming and we feel like we would take it more seriously if other people were with us. Khiara and I decided to change the end of the movie because it will add more suspense and it will make it seem less like a trailer and we’re like two minutes of a movie. For our re-shoot we are going to add the missing angles and edits. The actors are still going to use the same type of clothing and we did change the script a little because it will flow better. When we edit, we will make sure that our titles are in order because our first movie didn’t have them in order and that something on we need to fix. Filming this weekend will be best because of the Corona Virus. We do not know if schools will close or if anyone of us get sick, so it is best if we do it as soon as possible. For protection, all of us will have hand sanitizer and try to be very cautious of what we do.

Peer Review

Last class we reviewed our classmates movie. We were assigned a group and their movie (just like ours) had to meet the requirements. After analyzing their movie, we filled out a sheet that has questions that would further help the group with their video. The group's video overall was understandable, but here were a couple of scenes that seem out of place. That made me notice that our group could of made our movie flow better as well. Watching their movie help us with ours as well. We saw mistakes that we will fix in ours like the quality of the sound. In their movie, when the victim was being kidnapped, it seemed as if they killed her. The next scene shows that she is alive, this could of been displayed better if they were to drugged her or change the scene to make it transition to her already being abducted. Overall, the movie was good. It had good lighting and most of the requirements. I like how it opened by the pool because the colors were vibrant and it was a contrast to what was going to happen later in the video. It is a clear difference because it went from bright blue and yellow to black and grey.

Editing The Movie

Last class our group edited our movie. With the help of a friend of ours, we could do more technical things. We did the process on Imovie because it was easier to edit. In class, we chose the best takes that we have gotten from filming. It did not take long because most of them we the similar. We gotten music throughout our whole movie. Also, the video is a little bit different from our story board. While filming, we added angles and different perspective so it can turn out better. We didn't plan on making these changes, but for our re-shoots, we will most likely change our plans for the movie. But, it is not that different from what we expected. We put all of the necessary edits and overall I think our movie came out well. When I saw the finished product, I was laughing the whole time because we are not used to being "actors" and "directors." The beginning has the most suspense and as it goes, the viewer can see how the plot will unfold.

Filming At A Library

In the library, we filmed the rest of our movie. Khiara, Luisa, and I where there first, then Erik came after. The study room was small but it was enough to turned it into an “interrogation room.” Once we got there, we noticed that there was a dry-erased board. Luisa and I asked a lady that worked there for expo markers. Then we filled the board with out evidence like police would do trying to solve crime. I brought scissors, tape, glue because we were making our props. It was supposed to be a file of evidence but we didn’t use it. But, we taped pictures of Luisa on the board to represent the crime scene. It wasn’t showed clearly in our footage but we decided that it would look better instead of a blank background. Luisa and I wrote random information like the time of death and suspects to make it look realistic. When everyone was there, we rehearsed Khiara's and Erik's lines. It was easy for them to learn it because it wasn’t a lot. Everyone had there part for filming. Khiara was an actor, Luisa recorded, and I directed and try to keep everyone on task. We started to become loud so we became quiet and serious. There were times where we would laugh because no one is used to acting and it was funny seeing ourselves when we looked back at the footage.

Filming At The Park

On Saturday, my group and I filmed. We filmed the murder scene and the flashbacks at the fair. Since there actually wasn't a fair, we filmed on the slides and swings at the playground nearby. When we first got there, it was still bright but cloudy. We filmed Khiara and Luisa walking around as if they were hanging out. I didn't expect for the sun to go down quickly so most our shots were film in the dark. I think that for this flashback, we will use the shots that were in the dark because the lighting would be extremely different. There wasn't any lights at the park but we used my phone as a flashlight and I think it came out better then we expected. We had to re-shoot some of those takes because you could see the shadow of my phone. Luisa is usually the person that films but I filmed that day because Luisa was an actor for these two scenes. As we were filming we added more angles that would really add to our movie. In the beginning, it was hard to film because it was very cold outside and it was awkward to film someone "getting murdered" in daylight. We would stop recording when someone walked by and resumed once they were gone. For this scene, we had to use fake blood. It wasn't in any store so Luisa made some. We taped a bag of the fake blood to her stomach and made a hole so when Khiara had to "stab" her, she didn't have to press hard. But, it took a while for the blood to show on her shirt so we pressed the bag and started to film quickly once it was seen.

Supplies For Filming

Last class my group and I decided to find supplies so we can film. I went to Party City to find anything for the scene where Elizabeth gets murdered. I couldn't find any fake blood but I found a badge and handcuffs for the "police officer." I was going to buy it but I didn't have enough money. So I am going today after school to buy both of them. I couldn't find any fake knifes, but, hopefully there will be some today. If not we will use something else. For the fake blood, we are going to try to make some. We are going to film the murder scene tomorrow. After school we will go to a park and try to get as much as we can. We are deciding to go around five so we can film it in the sunset. But we are going before it and film it multiple times just in case if the lighting is weird. On Saturday we are going to a library so we can film the interrogation scenes. It was difficult trying to get a study room because you need a library card. I have one but I'm pretty sure it expired. I'm going to ask my mom if she has one. If she does not, I will try to get one. If none of these options work, we will film it at my house. We couldn't film last weekend because none of us could get a ride to film.

Planning Blog: Storyboard

Making the storyboard was really fun. But hard because we aren't artists. You can tell whats going on but the pictures are so funny. We all tried not to laugh when writing it. We also had an easy time because all of our stuff was on google slides. We just copied into picture form. It was hard to convey what we wanted it to look like. We have an idea but because we aren't artists we weren't able to do it. So we just tried our best. It could be worse so I'm happy with how ours turned out. We are also starting filming tomorrow, which is so exciting.

Planning Blog: Title Design in Details

At first, it was weird trying to make up names of companies but it became easier as we made them. We only used our names but the some actors and editors will be included. From the help of watching other credits from movies, we knew how we wanted to display them. We also found that it would be best if we didn't go over the top with colors and sizes. I think that it will 90% the same once we start to film. There might be some changes but it will only be if necessary. Giving out the roles for the titles was easy because we knew what our strengths were.

Planning Blog: Filming Procedures

As a group we spoke last class and discussed our main characters name. We decided to call her Ava because it was cute and easy. We also decided to stay true to real case and call the girl who got murdered Elizabeth. We have made a schedule for February and will be remaking one every month. We are all pretty busy so we can really only meet on Saturdays and early release days. We have discussed tips to stay safe. We will also be printing of our scripts. We are going to hand out our scripts on Friday at the fair. We are going to make the lines as simple as possible to ensure that everyone can memories them. We will also spend days during class memorizing lines.

Planning Blog: Sound Script

I thought writing a script was going to be easy. Lucky for us we based ours off of a true story. So it was easy to look back and get details. But giving out lines was kind of hard. We thought that since we are only writing two minutes we have to leave some parts up in the air. But we still wanted a well rounded story. My favorite part was writing parts with the grandma. Although she doesn't have a lot of lines i can just imagine a lot of emotion. This is a thriller but we still want raw emotion and feelings. We are so excited to start practicing soon.

Planning Blog: Shooting Script

Today our group planned how we are going to shoot our movie. This process was a little difficult because we wanted to show different angles but not show all in one scene. Since we got our inspiration from a real case we had somewhat of an outline on how we are going to do it. We wanted to show as much as possible but make it look like a trailer or tell the whole story in the two minutes. This is why flashbacks to give the viewer more information. We think that the shooting will be easier than the other videos that we did because it is more planned out. Tomorrow our group will confirm a name for our main character and the title of the movie. Also, we will try to get everything done so we can start filming earlier and see if there are any changes that need to be made. I think that we won't be making much of a difference but its always good to be prepared for anything.

Title Research: Zodiac

The movie Zodiac had about 23 titles, the first three were the companies then the rest was the actors and the producers, editors, make-up, costumes, and sound/music. The images that were prioritized was the main character's job. This shows that this will be important throughout the movie. It symbolizes that it will be a big part of what the movie is about. Since the Zodiac killer is very known in the United States, I think it will show the postal place (the character's job) receiving their cryptic message. It appeals to the viewers because the Zodiac killer was still relevant and no one ever found out who they were. The music and how it was filmed (like a non-stopping movement) makes it feel chaotic and keeps the viewers attentions because they want to know what happens next but also how this movie will portray the killer and killings that they did.

Title Research: Get Out

In the movie there were 24 titles in total. The first three were the companies that "made" the movie (as in who owns it and who produced it.) The other titles who split into the actors and the behind-the-scenes people. They were the people that were in charge of casting, makeup, costumes, music, editing, etc. The images that were prioritized was the trees. The importance of the trees is already giving the viewer the idea that at some point in the movie the main characters will be isolated. The trees was most of the beginning which implies that it is lengthy. The beginning is showing the trees and showing the two main characters seeing each other again because one of them picked something up from a bakery and the other is at their house getting ready. It tells the watchers that they might be going somewhere and the trees are telling them that they might be going to a place that is far away or that is secluded. The trees establish an enigma because it seems like miles and miles of trees which gives an eerie effect. Strategies that are used to appeal to its target is the simplicity of the characters. I think that people would rather have relate able characters then over-the-top. But throughout the movie, there are things that you didn't expect to happen, which draws more viewers. The techniques and angles that the directors used gave the beginning a calm feeling. It makes the people watching it not to expect what will happen throughout the movie.

Title Research: Venom

There are 17 titles and 7 actors in the opening sequence to the first two minutes of the film venom. The image prioritized in the opening sequence is the main characters antagonist which is the monster. The connotations the image carry is the villain of the story aka the monster. The genre is reinforced through symbolic sounds by the music from the opening sequence and it is reinforced through technical codes by the camera angles and movement they use in it. This film establishes enigma through the images it displays of the characters monster. The strategies used to ensure the film appeals to its target audience are the colorful images and the different editing in the film.

Title Research: Halloween

For the opening of the movie Halloween there are 19 titles and 12 actor names displayed on the opening sequence fir that movie. The imagine that is prioritized in the opening is a pumpkin, the image carries a reverse connotation. It goes from a rotten pumpkin to a perfect one. The genre is reinforced though the symbolic codes by sending the watchers to a suspenseful vibe. To get them wondering what the pumpkin stands for and why is it going from a rotten pumpkin to a good one. The genre is reinforced by technical codes by the camera zooming into the pumpkin as it goes back to being a normal carved pumpkin. The film establishes enigma by having the first two minutes be about a pumpkin rotting and the background music having a puzzling affect on the watchers. The strategies used to ensure that the film appeals to its target audience is the carved pumpkin. Since the title of the movie is "Halloween" they use a dark background and a lit up pumpkin to give the audience a thrill as to what is going to happen. The technology was used effectively through their editing techniques and their camera angles. The producers used a zoom affect and they used a reverse time-lapse to give the thrill to the audience.

Title Research: Watch the titles

Watch the titles is an opening scene website. Once you click on title sequences, sadly they are not in alphabetical order. They also are not ordered under genres. It also makes it harder to narrow down. You have to open up another tab and search the genre. Or you could look at it and try to guess, which is not very accurate. This website is very pretty. I enjoy the layout. It is easier to use than the last one. I like that the website is separated based on ways to find things. It even has student films, which i find really cool. Watching the student films can help us see examples from a non-professional perspective.

Title Research: Art of the title

Art of the title is a website that lists most movie opening scenes. They are not listed in alphabetical order. Nor are they ordered by genre. When you are looking for a certain genre kit makes it hard to look for what you want. It also makes it harder to narrow down. It makes you look through all titles and check and see if they are your genre in a separate tab. I do however like how you can kind of narrow it down if you know the designer and studio it came from. But that is kind of a hard thing to know because the names are so specific and i was expecting just a tab with the Big 5 and then a last one with independent. The colors of the website are also really cute too. I like the way the shade of  blue they use and the black and white compliment. The aesthetic is very pretty. For researching titles this website is very reliable. It is also very important.

Genre Research: You Get Me

For another one of our reviews we chose You get me. The genres are crime, romance, and thriller. The camera angles mostly used are high, medium close up, closeups, and Dutch/canted. The movements are mostly zooms, pans and very little tilts. The most common sounds were dialogue, footsteps, leaves crunching, and school bells ringing etc. The editing was very seemless and they used a lot of jump cuts, fade ins and outs, and action matches. The movie was mainly about Tyler and Holly. Tyler has an amazing girlfriend named Ally but they break up and he meets Holly. They both have a one night stand but Holly becomes obsessed. One thing I didn't like is that it falls under the crazy ex lover trope, which is often used in movies targeted towards teenagers. One thing I did like is that it had a very good soundtrack and I feel like those are very important. I also liked the casting choices because those are extremely important to how a movie flows.
Close up

Genre Research: 47 Meters Down

Prop (Cage)
In the movie the CAMS and CLAMPS are mostly the same throughout the movie. The setting is in the ocean. The main props is the shark cage and the oxygen tanks that the two main characters are wearing. The makeup is very minimum since they are underwater for most of the movie. The lighting is dim but clear. The lighting does not change much because they are at the bottom of the ocean. The actors are in a panic because they can't get back up. The angles were high and low. Throughout the movie the viewer sees the actors from inside the cage or swimming in the ocean. There were also a lot of tracking shots. I think that there was a lot of movement because the ocean isn't still. The most common angles that appeared in the movie were low angles, and medium close ups. The lighting was often dark. It was mostly kept dark because they were stuck under water most of the time. The only few times it was light was before they went into the tank and when Lisa faces hallucinations about escaping. Some of the elements we liked in 47 meters down was that the movie has a very suspenseful vibe to it, we kind of knew what was coming next but we didn’t at the same time. And some elements we didn’t like were that some parts of the movie didn’t have to be included in the film, the movie could’ve gone on with out those parts.
Two People Shot

Genre Research: Bird Box

For one of the movies we chose Bird Box. Its genre is both thriller and drama. For the CA in CAMS which is camera angles we have plenty of them. The most used camera angles in Bird Box are high angles, close ups, canted angle and low angles. For the M in CAMS we have movement and there was a lot of zoom, panning and tilt.
For our S which stands for common sounds they were footsteps, water sounds, wind blowing, birds and sounds of nature. Some common editing there were a lot of flashbacks, action match, and eye-line match. For the elements of bird box we have the protagonist which was Malorie, she was pregnant when this disaster started. People would see something that means a lot to them but it would end with them dying. The way they died is their worst fear. The antagonist is their biggest fear. Only people who were happy were able to see outside and not be affected by the visions.  One element I didn't like was that the you could guess what would happen next because it was a circle of events, which the same thing kept happening over and over.

Low Angle

Genre Research: Fractured

Costume
The movie Fractured is a thriller movie where the main character Ray is frantic of the where-abouts of his daughter and wife after the hospital where they stayed at claims that they are not there. The setting of the movie is in a hospital away from big cities. The costumes in Fractured are winter clothes, hospital uniforms, and police uniforms (it is the most common throughout the movie.) An important piece of clothing is the daughter's yellow coat. There are a lot of close ups and medium close-ups. There are scenes where actors are talking so they camera would do a shot reverse shot and show their body movement. Another edit in the movie was action match. This was mostly used the hospital when Ray was searching for his family. The sound is the movie was digetic, non-digetic music and dialogue. There was music in some parts of the movie to add an dramatic effect and to keep the viewer on edge. The elements that I like are that you think that you know how it will end but there was many plot twists. An element that I did not like was that there are some parts of the movie that I have questions on but were never answered. I think that this is a good element because the viewer is still drawn to the movie after the movie but for me personally, I rather know everything and not wonder what happens next.
Make up

Final Decision Of Genre

For our genre we chose thriller. We chose these because they are easiest to be portrayed. Within two minutes, it would be hard to do a romcom or comedy. We also really like watching American horror story. Which is a horror/ thriller too. We are going to use most of the same angles they use. They mostly use high angles, tracking shots, and sometimes trunk shots.

Genre Research: Thriller and Horror

On our last blog, which was about our PowerPoint research on the drama genre. We know have decided on two other genres to write about and do some research on that too. We chose thriller and horror. We chose them because they both have similar movies made for the genre. Our main one will be thriller since our movie will be based on the thriller genre. Camera Angles used in thrillers are high angles, close up shots, tilted angles, and long shots. Some camera movements are tracking, panning, zoom, and dolly. Some shots are over the shoulder shot, point of view shot, hand held shot, and wide shot. Some costumes for thrillers are normal clothing type, such as normal daily outfits you would wear to school, to work, anything of that type.  For the lighting, since most thriller and horror movies are more dark and have the scary and suspenseful affect on its audience the lighting that is  most commonly used is low-key lighting. Other common ones are back lighting, filler light, under lighting, and high-key lighting. For make-up and hair, most thrillers may be seen as normal and natural makeup but some thrillers may use special affects makeup for their film. Now for our props, many thriller films have the main plot be death. Which would lead to them using weapons and such things as their props. The props may vary from a computer to a gun or a blanket to a plate. It all varies from what your plot is. Many props have to fit their antagonist personality. If the they are more violent they would use something bigger and stronger, if they are less violent they might use something small. Lastly for our setting, the thriller genre most commonly uses abandoned houses, forests, dark alleys, empty streets, and any dark area outside to set the mood for their setting. Some common editing in thriller movies are jump cuts, titles, elliptical editing, graphic math and parallel editing. Some thriller film examples would be Jaws, Get out, IT, Us, The Joker and many other films in that genre. Thriller movies use music, sound affects, dialogue and silence. They all combine to give that suspenseful vibe to the movie. Some elements that appealed to me were that the protagonist and antagonist battle at some point of the film, and that at one point a character will be dragged into a very dangerous situation that they had no clue was coming. Some elements I didn't like were that sometimes the main characters always die.

Generic Genre Research: Drama

The first genre that we research was Drama. The genre is usually a main character in a serious setting and they have a conflict. The viewer can see all the highs and lows of the character. There are intense situations throughout the movie. Drama movies make the viewers feel empathy for the characters because there are intense emotions. The CLAMPS are different depending on the setting and plot of the movie. The genre has dramatic elements. For example, drama movies are historical or based on something that is true.

Final Pitch

After thinking of what would be best for our group we were in between these two options:

  • 15 year old girl lures her little sisters best friend into the woods and murders her
  •  A teen who becomes a serial killer to feel closer to her father, who is in, little does she know he's innocent
These options are good for our assignment because they are both thriller/suspense, which would be easier to portray in the video. The serial killer is a classic way to grab peoples' attention. The plot of every serial killer movie are about the same so it might be had to change it without going off track. This movie can go many ways as in how it can be filmed which is good because we can use different angles. For the other pitch, it is more specific and it is based on a true case. It would be good because we have an "outline" as to how our movie can go. If we pick this idea, we will change some parts of the story.

When we pitched we each suggested an idea and weighed them out. We each decided that going with the pitch about the 'thrill kill' would be easiest because it is based on a true story. So rather than try and come up with how to start it we are going to do a flashback scene of our main character killing her best friend. Then we are going to see her getting interviewed by the police where they tell her they know she did it. We went with this idea because we have had this since the beginning of the year. We also picked it because we all like murder mystery movies and wanted to see what it would feel like to do one and I want to direct it.

Start Of Final Task

Today we are starting our final task. Since the beginning of the year, when my teach told me about the two minute film, I was excited. My friend and I were excited and were already thinking of ideas of what we wanted to do for the project. I liked doing the filming projects because they were fun. It was stressful at some parts, but it was different from doing the same type of work from my other classes. Throughout the year our group was always the same so my group for the final project will be Khiara, Luisa, and I.

I remember when the class started and I thought that I knew the bare minimum of filming, but throughout the year I have learned a lot. In the beginning of the year I learned the terms for filming. Most of the words are no-brainers. After, we learned about cameras and editing. Besides from the technical things, I learned to always have back up plans. For the music video and commercial, there were problems that would happen and we would have to fix it. For the other projects I've been director. I like being behind the scenes and wanting to makes the shots look better. I also like doing makeup, the other videos did not have any special makeup , but for this video we are going to use special makeup and fake blood.

In class we learned what pitching a film is. By definition, pitching a film is a Hollywood film that is encapsulated in 25 words or less (usually in one sentence.) For the project, our group came up with these ideas :

Pictures of us working om the project
  1. A movie based off of the 'thrill kill' a 15 year old girl lures her little sisters best friend into the woods and murders her, she wouldn't have been found if it was for her diary.
  2.  A teen who becomes a serial killer to feel closer to her father, who is in, little does she know he's innocent
  3. A superhero who spend his days fighting crime but when he gets he goes back out and murders people for the fun of it
